Pontresina & the Engadine

Pure delight in the High Alps

Wild and romantic, sun-kissed and sheltered from the wind, the historic mountaineering village of Pontresina is located on a terrace on the southern side of the Alps at just over 1,800 meters above sea level. International visitors are captivated by the charm of the lovingly restored Engadine houses dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, the Belle Epoque grand hotels, and architectural gems dating from even earlier times. The holiday resort is characterised by the highest peaks in the Eastern Alps, impressive glaciers, and the high Alpine climate. The region’s untouched nature boasts a range of fascinating wildlife including one of the largest ibex colonies in the Alps. The ibex are very much at home in the region and a familiar sight in Pontresina.

The sublime location allows for unique experiences no matter the season. In the summer, the breathtaking Alpine landscape draws hikers and mountain bikers to the peaks, over hill and dale to glaciers and deep-blue mountain lakes. The golden autumn is considered the most beautiful season in the Engadine. Winter enchants with a snow-covered fairy-tale landscape, crisp air, perfect slopes and trails for cross-country and downhill skiing, snowshoe tours, winter hiking, and ice skating.
